General Requirements
A. Passport with validity for 6 months for single entry visa; 9 months for 6 months multiple entry visa and 15 months for 12 months multiple entry-visa.
B. Passport with at least one full blank Visa Page.
C. One completed Visa Application Form (Chinese names must be stated if applicants have them).
D. One recently-taken passport size photo
E. Full amount of visa fee.
F. When to apply: within 3 months before the intended date of entry to China.
Specific requirements
A. Tourist Visa (L): Itinerary and/or invitation from friends in China.
B. Business Visa (F): Invitation from authorized institutions in China.
C. Working Visa (Z): "Alien Employment License" issued by Chinese Labor Authorities or "Certificate" from the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, and a statement of confirmation by the employer or a Chinese governmental invitation.
D. Student Visa (X): J-W201/J-W202 Form issued by the Chinese Ministry of Education and Letter of Admission by the school.
E. Entry Visa to Tibet: You are advised to participate in Group Tours organized by travel agencies or obtain an approval from Tibetan Tourist Bureau before filing your applications.
F. Entry Visa to Hong Kong: Visas are not required for tourists travelling on Australian, or New Zealand passports, who may enjoy a "visa free period for visit not exceeding 3 month". Entry Visa Validity & Stay Duration
A single entry visa is valid for 3 months, a double entry visa for 6 months, and multiple-entry visa either for 6 or 12 months, from the date of its issue. Normally, an entry visa allows the applicant to stay in China for 30 days counted from the date of the entry in China. In case of need, you are reminded to extend your visa in China's local police station, to avoid illegal stay.
Notes
A. All fees/charges must be paid with application and in the form of money order, bank cheques (if applying by mail) or cash (if applying in person). Company or personal cheques and credit card are not accepted.
B. Withdrawal or decline of application shall not be refunded.
C. Failure to meet the above procedural and/or documentation requirements may result in delay of the processing, decline or return of applications to the sender.
D. In accordance with relevant agreements on mutual exemption of visa fees, Chinese visas are issued gratis to citizens of the following countries: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Maldives, Pakistan, Poland, Slovakia and Yugoslavia. The Mail/Courier Handling Fee shall, however, not be exempted.
E. If the passport is to be collected in person, the "pick up form" must be shown.
F. The Embassy is not responsible for calling the courier companies for pickup after visas are issued.
G. Unless the designated period of processing has passed , the Embassy will not accept inquires about the progress of the visa application.
H. The Embassy only accepts applications from ACT, NT, SA and QLD.
